Individual counselling is designed to support your personal growth, emotional well-being, and resilience. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, the therapeutic process is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, set goals, and work toward meaningful change. The focus is on building a strong therapeutic relationship where your voice is heard, and your strengths are recognized, empowering you to make lasting, positive shifts in your life.
Substance Use Counselling
-
I offer substance use counselling rooted in a harm reduction philosophy. Whether you're looking to reduce or stop substance use, explore safer use practices, or navigate the complexities of recovery, the focus is on empowering you to make informed choices that align with your values and well-being. The therapeutic approach is tailored to your individual needs and goals, providing a supportive space to reflect on your relationship with substances and to create sustainable change. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all solution, and recognize that each person's path to healing is unique. I work with you to understand the underlying factors contributing to substance use, and to develop healthier coping strategies.
Trauma Therapy
-
Healing from trauma is a deeply personal and transformative process, and I am here to support you every step of the way. Trauma therapy is tailored to help individuals process and heal from past experiences—whether from childhood, recent events, or long-term emotional pain. My approach is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed practices that prioritize safety, trust, and respect, creating a space where you can feel supported and understood.
Using evidence-based techniques, including EMDR and Internal Family Systems therapy, we will help you process emotions, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, and release the physical effects of trauma stored in the body. Together, we'll work on building coping skills, emotional resilience, and a renewed sense of control over your life.

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy designed to help people who have been through difficult experiences or trauma. It works by using eye movements or other forms of gentle stimulation to help your brain process those experiences in a new and less distressing way.
In EMDR therapy, you'll work closely with a trained therapist who will guide you through recalling upsetting memories while also focusing on something like moving their fingers or tapping. This helps your brain make connections that lead to healing and resolution of the emotional pain associated with those memories.
The goal of EMDR is to reduce the distress you feel from past experiences so you can move forward in your life feeling more balanced and in control. It's a structured approach that respects your pace and helps you build new, positive beliefs about yourself. Many people find EMDR helpful for overcoming issues like PTSD, anxiety, and other difficulties rooted in past trauma.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a type of therapy that helps you understand and heal different parts of yourself. It's based on the idea that each person has various parts within them, almost like different personalities or roles. These parts can sometimes conflict or cause emotional distress.
In IFS therapy, you work with a therapist to identify and communicate with these different parts of yourself. The therapist helps you understand how these parts were formed and why they might be causing problems now. The goal isn't to get rid of any parts, but to help them work together in harmony.
By learning more about your inner parts and their roles, you can heal old wounds, reduce internal conflicts, and find greater balance and peace within yourself. IFS therapy can be very empowering because it helps you develop a deeper connection with your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, leading to more self-compassion and a clearer sense of who you are.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that helps you learn new ways to manage intense emotions and improve relationships.
In DBT, you'll work with a therapist to develop skills in four main areas: mindfulness, which helps you stay present in the moment; distress tolerance, which teaches you how to handle crises without making things worse; emotion regulation, which helps you understand and manage your feelings; and interpersonal effectiveness, which improves how you communicate and interact with others.
DBT is practical and focuses on learning skills that you can use in your daily life to feel more stable and in control. It's about building a toolbox of strategies to handle difficult situations and improve your overall well-being. Many people find DBT helpful not only for managing intense emotions but also for improving their relationships and feeling more confident in themselves.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of therapy that helps you accept the difficulties in your life while committing to actions that align with your values. It's based on the idea that trying to avoid pain and distress often creates more suffering, and instead, learning to accept your feelings and thoughts can lead to a richer and more meaningful life.
In ACT, you'll work with a therapist to develop mindfulness skills, which help you observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. You'll also clarify your values — what truly matters to you in life — and set goals that align with these values. The therapy focuses on taking action towards these goals, even in the presence of challenging emotions or obstacles.
The goal of ACT isn't to eliminate difficult feelings or thoughts, but to change your relationship with them so they have less control over your life. By practicing acceptance and mindfulness, and by committing to actions that move you towards a fulfilling life, ACT can help you build resilience, improve your well-being, and create meaningful changes that last.

Mindfulness-based therapy helps you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment without judgment. It's about paying attention to what's happening right now, which can help you manage stress, improve your mood, and make clearer decisions.
In therapy sessions, you'll learn mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and body awareness exercises. These practices help you stay grounded and focused, even when faced with difficult emotions or challenging situations.
By becoming more mindful, you can develop a greater understanding of yourself and your reactions. This awareness allows you to respond to life's ups and downs with more clarity and compassion towards yourself. Mindfulness-based therapy can be especially helpful for reducing anxiety, managing depression, and enhancing overall well-being.

Somatic-based interventions in therapy focus on the connection between your body and mind. They recognize that your emotions and past experiences are stored not only in your thoughts but also in your body. By paying attention to bodily sensations, movements, and posture, these interventions help you process and release stored emotions and trauma.
In therapy sessions, you might work with your therapist to become more aware of how your body responds to stress or emotions. Techniques like deep breathing, gentle movement, or focusing on physical sensations can help you release tension and promote relaxation.
The goal of somatic-based therapy is to help you heal from past traumas, reduce physical symptoms of stress, and improve overall emotional well-being. By integrating body awareness into your therapy, you can gain deeper insights into your emotions and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.
